Billable Consultant is a Chrome extension designed to help freelancers and consultants track time, generate AI-powered work summaries, and create client invoices. We take your privacy seriously.

1. Data We Collect

We collect the following data only when you actively use the extension:

  • Browsing activity during tracking sessions: URLs, page titles, timestamps, and optional screenshots of the visible tab.
  • User-entered information: Client name, project name, hourly rate, and optional Upwork API credentials (Client ID and Secret).
  • Subscription status: Trial days remaining and paid state (handled securely by ExtensionPay).

All of this data is stored exclusively on your device using Chrome’s local storage (chrome.storage.local). Nothing is uploaded to our servers or shared with third parties, except in the limited cases below.

2. Optional Third-Party Data Processing

The extension communicates with the following services only when you explicitly use these features:

  • Google Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com): When you generate a report, tab titles and URLs are sent to Google’s Gemini 1.5 Flash model to create AI summaries. No screenshots, personal identifiers, or full page content are sent.
  • Upwork API (upwork.com and api.upwork.com): If you choose to connect your Upwork account, authentication tokens and project details are fetched via Upwork’s OAuth system. Credentials and tokens are stored locally on your device.
  • ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com): Used solely for managing your subscription (trial and $6.99/month payments). Only minimal status information is exchanged.

We do not have access to any data processed by these services.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

  • No browsing history outside of active tracking sessions.
  • No page content, cookies, form data, or keystrokes.
  • No personal communications (emails, messages).
  • No location data, IP address, or device identifiers.
  • No analytics, crash reports, or usage telemetry.

4. Data Storage & Security

All data remains on your device only. It is not synced, backed up, or transmitted unless you explicitly trigger one of the optional features above. You can clear all data at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing Chrome’s extension storage.

5. Children’s Privacy

Billable Consultant is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect new features. Significant changes will be noted in the extension’s update notes.
